Hot
Water Now Frequently Asked Questions
What
rebates are available for solar hot water & heat pump systems
?
If
you purchase a solar hot water system or heat pump you are potentially
eligible for up to 3 rebates
Rebate
1 - Renewable Energy Certificates
Renewable
energy certificates (or REC's) are
a Federal Government initiative that is related to the MRET
(mandoatory renewable energy target). This initiative ensures
that large energy producers buy a percentage of energy from
Renewable sources. Each megawatt of 'renewable energy' produced
is attributed with a point. Each point has a value that varies
according to a simple supply & demand model. Hot Water Now
buys the points from you and sells them to energy retailers,
who need to meet their obligations.
Rebate
2 - Federal Government Rebate
The
Federal Government will pay certain households $1000 dollars
to install a solar hot water system, rebate criteria is essentially
-
Principal
place of residence
-
Household
income below $100k per annum
-
Replacing
an electric hot water system
Rebate
3 - SA Government Rebate
If
you are the holder of a pension card or any other Government
concession card you will most likely be eligible for a further
$500 in rebates to go solar or upgrade to heat pump.
How
much money will I save if I go solar or heat pump ?
As
a general rule solar will save approx 80% of your hot water
energy consumption, heat pump will save you approximately
70% of your hot water energy consumption.
If
you are upgrading from an electric hot water system that
is on off peak power now, in general a solar will save 80%
of that cost as the boost element is able to remain on off
peak.
If
you are upgrading from an electric hot water system with a
heat pump, due to the SA climate & energy tariffs it is
most likely that you will need to change from Off
Peak tariff to Peak tariff
for at least some of the year, which will reduce the potential
money saving available due to the significant difference in
SA between the tariff pricing.
Our
suggestion in SA is that if solar is an option go solar
- the Sun is free, and heat pump uses some electricity 100%
of the time & potentially requires a higher cost energy
tariff.
What
about the cost saving versus natural gas ?
Natural
Gas is charged at basically the same amount as off peak
electricity, so if you were to compare a natural gas 5 star
unit v's a gas continuous solar you will receive an 80%
saving
How
quickly can you install my new hot water system ?
Your
new hot water system can be installed generally the same
day for an absolute emergency, or for people who consider
the purchase of a new hot water system before it fails we
offer an 'off peak' service where we plan your install usually
within 72hrs.
Why
do you promote EcoSmart & Dux ?
We prefer
to use Australian made & Australian owned products,
the bulk of the Dux & EcoSmart products are Australian
made & the companies are both Australian owned.
