Flat Plate Collectors V's Evacuated Tube Solar Panels.
There are now 2 types of solar collectors that are commonly being installed in South Australia.
1. Evacuated tube

2. Flat plate collectors

There is alot of talk about which system is better, and from our experience we prefer to use flat plate collectors.
Why Flat Plate Collectors?
The main reasons that we recommend flat plate collectors are as follows;
1. Flat plate collectors have been around since 1950 and have been a trusted part of South Australia's solar units since that time, evacuated tubes have been imported from china for the past 7yrs & we can't be certain that they will last as long.
2. The collector type itself is of little importance to the overall system efficiency. Evac tubes can be more efficient than flat plate collectors, highly efficient flat plate collectors are also available, although we find that they cause significant overheating issues in South Australia.
3. Flat plate collectors are made from aluminium, copper & 4mm toughened glass that is hail rated. We find that using the 'keep things simple method' ensures that you the consumer will not have to replace anything on your panels for the life of the panels. (we have heard of some companies providing spare tubes with the evac tube product, just incase they smash in bad weather).
4. Flat plate collectors are easy to install, easy to transport & in our view are more aesthetically pleasing than evacuated tube collectors.
